On the edge of Nikolaiviertel stands the Ephraim-Palais. This beautiful Rococo palace was built in 1766 for Veitel Ephraim, a court jeweler and owner of gold and silver manufactories. The palace was demolished in 1938 to make way for a new bridge. In 1985-1987 it was rebuilt on a plot close to the original site of the palace. Today the building is used for temporary exhibitions.
