The history of the church dates back to 1321, when the bishop of Konrad, through the brothers Święca, started the construction of the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1394, the church tower was erected from the funds of Duke Bogusław VIII , and later the sacristy and side chapels were added. The church with the city was often harassed by fires, especially the year 1679, when the fire caused by the lightning consumed the entire interior of the church with the tower. From 1540, the building was used by Protestants. In 1897, wooden balconies, characteristic of Protestant temples, were added in front of the choir and side naves.
