  ThomasTown_01.JPG - Grennan Castle, the impressive remains of which can be seen on the outskirts of the town, was built by Thomas FitzAnthony Walsh, the C13th Seneschal of Leinster, who surrounded the town (originally called Grennan) with a wall incorporating 14 towers. Cromwell’s army destroyed the wall, towers and most of the castle in 1650.
